David Rosenmann-Taub was born
in Santiago de Chile in 1927. The appearance of his first book,
Cortejo y Epinicio (Cortege and Epinicion) in 1949, when
he was twenty-two, was hailed as a revelation. Since then, he has
published more than ten volumes of poetry, including Los
Despojos del Sol
(The Spoils of the Sun), La Enredadera del
Júbilo (The Vine
of Jubilance), and Los Surcos Inundados (The Flooded Furrows),
for which he received the prestigious Premio Municipal de Poesía.
Since 2002, LOM Ediciones, in
Chile, has published a new edition of Cortejo y Epinicio; in 2003, El Mensajero (The Messenger; chosen by Chile’s leading critics as the best poetry book of 2003); El Cielo en la Fuente/La Mañana Eterna (The Sky in the Fountain/The Eternal Morning; in one volume); País Más Allá (Country Beyond); Poesiectomía (Poetryectomy); Los Despojos del Sol, Anandas I and II (The Remains of the Sun, Anandas I and II); Auge (Acme); and Quince (Fifteen), a book of commentaries by the author on fifteen of his poems, including a CD of him reading the poems.
David Rosenmann-Taub lives in the United States, where he continues writing,
composing music, and drawing.

The Corda Foundation Awards Program has been established to encourage students, professors, scholars and translators to investigate, further the understanding of, and translate David Rosenmann-Taub’s poetry.
The CORDA AWARDS FOR 2010 will be offered in five categories:
- Papers by Undergraduate Students
- Papers by Graduate Students
- Papers by Faculty Members and Scholars
- Poetry Translations
- Fellowship for a Doctoral Dissertation
The deadline for entries is December 1, 2010.
