David Rosenmann-Taub was born
in Santiago de Chile in 1927. The appearance of his first book,
Cortejo y Epinicio (Cortege and Epinicion) in 1949, when
he was twenty-two, was hailed as a revelation. Since then, he has
published more than ten volumes of poetry, including Los
Despojos del Sol
(The Spoils of the Sun), La Enredadera del
Júbilo (The Vine
of Jubilance), and Los Surcos Inundados (The Flooded Furrows),
for which he received the prestigious Premio Municipal de Poesía.
Since 2002, LOM Ediciones, in Chile, has published a new edition of Cortejo
y Epinicio; País Más Allá (Country Beyond);
El Cielo en la Fuente/La Mañana Eterna (The Sky in the Fountain/The
Eternal Morning); El Mensajero (The Messenger), and País
Más Allá.El Mensajero was chosen
by Chile’s leading critics
as the best poetry book of 2003.
David Rosenmann-Taub lives in the United States, where he continues writing,
composing music, and drawing.

Excerpts from the interview of David Rosenmann-Taub by Patricio Tapia in El Mercurio (Revista de Libros) on April 13, 2008:
You say that the texts selected in Quince are “rungs of a ladder.” Where would you say the ladder leads?
We are a ladder. From above: where to? From below: where to? We give ourselves theoretical answers that are seldom real. The physics that we know up to this moment is only one aspect of physics. The solutions are many and contradictory. That is one of the points that Quince presents.
Could you explain a statement like this one: “Each man prints, on the circle of life, the blazon of his being”?
That is how one of the commentaries begins. And then that sentence is developed in the commentary.
What counts for each of us? The responsibilities of being human.
